Little Old Lady Quilting that would be me. I have been a creative artist all my life. I trained as a professional singer/actor. I spent 30 years of my life singing at some of the most well-known opera and theatre venues in the country. At the same time, I taught privately; giving singing and acting lessons, as well as basic instruction in art. I supplemented my income by showing and selling my original artwork at regional art and craft shows, and a few galleries.
Then in 2009, I discovered a passion for fabric. At first, I was hand-painting and then embroidering and quilting silk tapestries of my own landscapes as wall hangings. I grew from that into a lover of Machine Quilting. I turned to both of traditional piece quilting and modern art quilts — including landscapes and the plants and animal life of the rural Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia where I was born; each work created by layering and applique and quilting in layers.
Besides creating my own one-of-a-kind paintings in fabric, I really enjoy the ability that one has to “draw” on the quilt top with threads to finish a work another artist has begun. I am in the process now of deciding on the long-arm machine that I will be installing in my workshop to expand on my 4 existing machines for quilting and embroidery.
This page and blog will be a way for others to see and follow the work I am creating.
I look forward to sharing it with you!
